Larned (Kansas) Community Web Site Santa Fé Trail DaysThe weekend will kick off with a Hamburger Feed on Friday, at the National Guard Armory from 5-7:00 p.m. This event is in-part sponsored by Heritage Feeders, Mull Feeding, and Ward Feed Yard. Your cost for admission is $5 per person, or Free with a Santa Fe Trail Days Button. Eagle Radio of Hays is sponsoring the Kids Pedal Pull beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the National Guard Armory. Bring your kids, young and old, for great food and fun! Registrations are now being made for Craft and Food Booths that will line the streets of downtown Larned on Saturday. And be sure to get your entries in at the Chamber for the Santa Fe Trail Days Parade. The parade will start at 11 a.m. Saturday morning and travel down Broadway. A Petting Zoo will be sponsored by the Episcopal church, 803 Main Street, from 9 to 3:30 p.m. Saturday's events will also feature a Quilt Show, Flea Market, Gunfights, a movie at the State Theater, and Carriage Rides all in downtown Larned. And be sure to look for special promotions by the Larned Retailers on Saturday as well! The popular Bullmania will be held Saturday night at the 4-H Area, followed by a Dance at the National Guard Armory. If dancing is not your style, then head to Walker's Steakhouse, where back by popular demand. The George and Gracie Allen Show will be presented at 9 p.m. on Friday and Saturday night, and at 8 p.m. on Sunday. The cost is $15 per person, but with a Santa Fe Trail Button you will receive $5 off of your ticket price. Fort Larned National Historic Site will have a fun-filled weekend of living history including many re-enactors and special programs throughout the weekend. An Iron Show will be the featured event at the Santa Fe Trail Center along with a Threshing Demonstration and other exhibits. The Santa Fe Trail Days 2-Mile Run/Walk will be held Monday morning on one of the best preserved western forts in the United States. Registration will begin at 7 a.m. at the Fort Larned National Historic Site parking lot. Race time is 8 a.m. The early registration fee is $12 per person, and $15 on race day. A Santa Fe Trail Days Race T-Shirt will be awarded as a part of your registration fee. Medals will also be awarded to the top three finishers for both male and female in the following age groups: 12 & Under, 13 to 18, 19 to 29, 30 to 39, 40 to 49, 50 to 59, and 60 & up. Sponsors for this year's event include the Larned High School STUCO, Giessel Brother Farms, Cocklebur Creek Hunting Service, Mull Farms & Livestock, First State Bank & Trust Company, Carr Auction & Real Estate, Edward Jones Investment of Larned, and Jennings Chiropractic & Kinesiology. A $500 scholarship will be awarded to a high school senior who has participated in cross country or track from the proceeds of this annual event. A Memorial Service will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday at the Larned Cemetery. As you can see, activities and fun for all ages are planned for this year's Santa Fe Trail Days, and you and your family are invited to enjoy the festivities. Santa Fe Trail Days Buttons are now being sold at the Larned Area Chamber of Commerce office, and will be available from the Board of Directors and through Larned area retail outlets. The cost per button is $5, but with your button, admission to several of Santa Fe Trail Days' events is Free or at a reduced price.
